Meikle Galdenoch Estate is made up of the two adjoining properties of Meikle Galdenoch and Little Galdenoch. The Estate is situated on the Rhins of Galloway, part of Scotland’s most south westerly point, about seven miles north west of Stranraer. The port of Stranraer provides good ferry services to Northern Ireland whilst the town provides a good range of shops, schools and services. Regular flights to UK Airports and Continental Europe depart from Prestwick Airport approximately one and half hours drive to the north of Meikle Galdenoch. Glasgow Airport is within two hours drive of the Estate.

The area is renowned for its livestock farming and is a genuinely rural part of Scotland. In addition to the sporting opportunities which are available on the Estate there is a wide variety of country sport available in the area. These include fishing and stalking as well as pheasant and partridge shooting on the surrounding estates.

There are a number of excellent golf courses within a short drive including the course at Portpatrick as well as the championship courses of the Ayrshire Coast. The Solway Coastline provides an abundance of opportunities for sailing and sea-fishing, and there is a harbour in Portpatrick as well as Stranraer.

DESCRIPTION

Meikle Galdenoch Estate is a delightful mixed Estate with a variety of woodland, moorland and good quality grassland as well as an extensive stretch of coastline and beach at Salt Pans Bay which is wonderfully secluded and sheltered on three sides by cliffs.

The Estate has been run as a commercial sporting enterprise and the Lodge at Meikle Galdenoch has been substantially modernised and renovated to provide comfortable accommodation for the guns and their guests. Situated in the heart of the Estate the Lodge and Farmhouse enjoy an entirely private setting. The stock on the Estate is currently approximately 60 deer (red, sika and fallow), 70 mountain goats and 30 moeflon. Approximately 10 roe deer are shot annually. The coastal position and the open fields provide excellent conditions for wildfowling there is good pheasant shooting as well as duck flighting, woodcock and snipe. The present owners have constructed three Finnish summer huts located at exceptionally beautiful spots on the Estate. There is one at the big loch on Meikle Galdenoch, one at Salt Pan Bay and one at Port Beg. These provide wonderful locations for barbecues and outdoor entertaining. Further details can be seen on the Estate website www.meiklegaldenochestate.com

In addition to the sporting enterprise run by the proprietor of the Estate the farm at Meikle Galdenoch has been let on a Limited Partnership Arrangement which terminated in early 2008. The farmland has been well maintained and is capable of growing good early crops of grass and grain due to the mild nature of the climate and the influence of the gulf stream.
