General
Ulva House lies on the edge of Strathpeffer, a village in the heart of Ross-shire in the north of Scotland. The village was once a fashionable spa resort where Victorian tourists would come to take the sulphurous waters and stay at one of the many luxury hotels. Today, Strathpeffer is still a popular tourist destination, visitors attracted by the unspoilt Victorian architecture, recently restored Spa Pavilion, now disused, the delightful Victorian railway station and beautiful countryside. The village has a thriving centre with useful shops, a newly built primary school and community centre, 18 hole golf course and doctors' surgery. There are a number of cafes and restaurants in the village and the magnificent Pavilion now plays host to both theatre and the arts. The nearby market town of Dingwall has further shops and amenities as well as a railway station and secondary school in recently opened new premises, while Inverness has all the facilities of a modern city including its airport with regular flights to the south and parts of Europe.
Strathpeffer is a popular base for walkers and cyclists with a number of way marked walks and cycle trails directly from the village. The beautiful and unspoilt surrounding countryside offers opportunity for a wide range of rural sport and recreation, while the West Coast, famous for its stunning coastline, is about an hour's drive away.
DESCRIPTION
Ulva House dates from the late 1800's and was formerly the station master's house until the closure of the village railway. The current owners acquired the house in 2000 and since then have considerably upgraded and improved the property and in 2007 completed a two storey extension. This building work has been carried out to the highest specification with many of the exterior features echoing the existing house and has created comfortable, bright and spacious accommodation, including the magnificent dining kitchen with French windows to a decked sitting area, and on the first floor the master bedroom with its dressing room and beautifully appointed en suite bathroom.
Ulva House is of stone and slate construction with the extension being of timber frame and block construction, harled, under a slate roof. From the main public road, wrought iron gates open to a drive leading to a parking area at the back of the house. From here steps lead to a gravel path and steps to the stable style door opening to:
