General
Far View lies on the south western coast of the Ardnamurchan peninsula overlooking the Sound of Mull. The tip of the Ardnamurchan peninsula is the most westerly point of the British Mainland and this secluded corner on the west coast must be one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of Scotland with its lovely sheltered sea lochs dotted with small islands and the wooded hills rising steeply from the shores.
The Ardnamurchan peninsula is renowned for a variety of outdoor activities available in the most magnificent surroundings. These include some lovely walks, deer stalking, fishing on rivers, hill and sea lochs, bird watching, enjoying the wide variety of flora and fauna while simply observing the continuously changing sea and shore life.
Seals abound in the sea lochs and in the summer months schools of porpoises and whales can sometimes be seen. The sea lochs are also rich in fish with mackerel coming in during the summer months and Loch Sunart prawns and scallops are well known local delicacies. There is a lovely beach at Sanna with white sand and some lovely clean rock pools.
There is a local store and café in Kilchoan together with an active community centre complete with gym and the Kilchoan Hotel. The ferry from the bottom of pier road goes to Tobermory, Mull. Tobermory has a well stocked Co-op, a good butchers shop and a delicatessen.
Far View enjoys lovely westerly views over Kilchoan Bay to the Sound of Mull and sits in a quiet rural hamlet. It lies some 43 miles west of Ardgour where the Corran Ferry operates to take passengers and cars across Loch Linnhe and onwards to Fort William (52 miles). Fort William has a wide range of facilities with a daily train service to Glasgow and connections to London. Both Inverness and Glasgow have airports with regular flights to London and parts of Europe.
