Canonbury House lies on the edge of the coastal town of Fortrose on the Black Isle, a small peninsula lying just north of Inverness. Canonbury House is an extensive “Grade B” Listed property of immense character and noted local history, surrounded by mature gardens which include two original Victorian greenhouses with vine. Offering spacious accommodation in very well proportioned rooms, the property retains the charm and character of its era with elegant arched and beautiful wooden floors. The house sits on an elevated, south facing site, sheltered by mature gardens and with beautiful views to the Moray Firth. The house was built in the late 1800's and is exceptional in that its interior retains the layout, features and the high quality workmanship typical of this time and conserved by recent extensive works to the fabric of the building. Canonbury is a gracious family home with well proportioned, bright rooms, many with lovely views to the Moray Firth and most displaying fine woodwork with sanded floors, moulded architraves and deep skirtings, while a magnificent galleried landing with wooden arches over the balustrades adds to the character and style of the house.

Fortrose grew up around its Cathedral and this is reflected in its fine architecture and layout. Today it is a thriving small town with a strong community and is popular for its beautiful coastal location and unspoilt centre. The town is well served with a number of independent shops, hotels and restaurants, with primary schooling in nearby Avoch and secondary schooling at the highly acclaimed Fortrose Academy. There is a yacht club and harbour, and a golf club on Chanonry Ness, a spit of land extending in to the Moray Firth and from where the renowned bottle nose dolphins can most often be seen. Inverness, a short drive away, has all the facilities of a modern city including its airport with regular flights to the South.

The countryside of the Scottish Highlands is varied, from the fertile, rolling farmland of the coast to the inland moorlands and rugged mountains. This unspoilt landscape provides a haven for many rare and protected species of wildlife as well as a wide range of rural leisure and sporting opportunities from way marked walks and cycle trails on the Black Isle to skiing and adventure sports in the Cairngorm National Park.
