General
LOCATION
This site is situated in the beautiful Conie Glen south of Campbeltown on
the Mull of Kintyre. Campbeltown, originally called Kinlochkilkerran but
renamed in the 17th century by the Earl of Argyll, who was of course a
Campbell, has a reputation as a producer of some of the world’s finest
single malt whisky including the multi-award winning ‘Springbank’. The
town features a busy port and good regional facilities including
supermarket and secondary schooling. The Kintyre peninsula offers a
huge array of recreational opportunities connected to its beautiful
landscapes and coastline, including sandy beaches, excellent golf courses
and countryside walks in the mild gulfstream climate. There are two
daily flights (35 mins) all year round from Glasgow to Machrihanish
airport, close to Campbelltown.
Local facilities are provided by the settlement of Southend, some three
miles south of the plot. Within Southend parish there is a Church of
Scotland, primary NHS surgery, village hall, playing field, 18-hole golf
course, caravan and camp-site, hotel and a shop with tea-room. Sanda
Island lies two miles south of Southend, and can be visited on boat trips
from Campbeltown.
DESCRIPTION
The subjects comprise a broadly rectangular piece of ground extending to
approximately 0.40 acres bounded to the east by the public road from
which the subjects will be accessed. To all other sides lie agricultural
fields laid down to grass with Brecklate farm to the north of the subjects.
Boundaries are demarcated on the ground by means of coloured pegs.
The subjects benefit from an open, undeveloped location providing
attractive outlooks in all directions across the glen to distant hills and
woodlands.
Outline Planning Consent (Ref: 07/01400/OUT)
was granted over the subjects on 18th July 2007
for erection of a single dwelling house. Subject
to the granting of detailed consent/submission
of reserved matters, the subjects will lend
themselves very well to development, providing a
comfortable family home, an attractive second
home or a secluded weekend retreat with
significant letting/holiday letting potential. The
outline consent in place allows for construction
of a 11/2 storey dwelling of a Gross Floor Area of
140 sq m however it has been indicated that the
local Planning Authority may be flexible with
regard to dwelling size, subject to a suitable
design being proposed per conditions contained
within the outline consent. (Copy PP available
from selling agents by request).
