services including a cottage hospital.
Blairgowrie is situated in the heart
of east Perthshire in the fertile Vale of Strathmore, famous
for its soft fruit production. Agriculture plays a significant part in the
local economy, Blairgowrie has undergone significant expansion in recent
years due to its location suiting easy commuting to larger centres such
as Perth and Dundee which are both within thirty minutes driving time. In
addition, the surrounding area is renowned for its recreational activities.
Blairgowrie boasts its own championship golf course at Rosemount and there
are also challenging courses nearby at Alyth and Dunkeld. The Glenshee ski
centre is a comfortable drive north and there are opportunities for fishing
and shooting on nearby estates and for the hillwalker the Grampian and Cairngorm
mountains are easily reached.
History
During the 1800's the growth of the textile industry brought great economic
prosperity to this area and a number of mills were built on the
banks of the Ericht taking advantage of the river as a source
of power for the purpose of spinning both flax and jute. Keathbank Mill
continued to operate commercially until 1979. In the interim the property
was used a visitor centre as the subjects are unique due to their retaining
substantial elements of their industrial heritage. Keathbank Mill houses
the largest working water wheel in the country and a massive steam engine
installed in 1862 to provide electricity in periods when there was insufficient
flow from the river, both of which are to be fully restored by the developers
to their former glory and will be available to be viewed by the
residents.
Services
• All properties have mains electricity and gas
• Broadband connection is available in all properties.
