General
Aberdona and Meeks Park Woods offer two separate blocks of attractive woodlands which are located approximately 1 mile to the north of the small Clackmannanshire village of Forestmill. The area is highly accessible, both the M9 and M90 motorways are within a 15 minutes drive.
DESCRIPTION
Lot 1
Aberdona Wood 32.1 acres (13.0 ha)
This compact rectangular area of woodland was planted in 1960 with approximately 7.5 hectares of Scots Pine; 2 hectares of European Larch; 1 hectare of Western Hemlock, the remainder being 1.5 hectares of Birch and approximately 0.5 hectares of bare ground. Although believed to be accurate, neither the sellers, nor CKD Galbraith LLP can guarantee this accuracy.
There are two overhead power lines traversing the woodland.
Lot 2
Meeks Park Wood 84.7 acres (34.3 ha)
A forest track provides good access directly from the public road on the western side. The northern section of the wood is known as Cow Wood. The end of the road is met by a private track and there is a right to cross this track to the southern block, known as Meeks Park.
The woodland was planted in 1960, principally with Scots Pine, with a strong presence of Western Hemlock and some minor species, including Japanese Larch, European Larch and Birch.
The woodland has been thinned in places and there is now a large volume of Western Hemlock which is mature and ready for clear felling.
There are large populations of Roe deer in the area and the nature of the woodland provides a wonderful habitat for the deer. The opportunity for a limited amount of rough shooting is also possible.
There are two overhead power lines traversing the woodland.
DIRECTIONS
From the A977 Kincardine Bridge to Kinross road, take the minor road northwards from Forestmill which is signposted to Aberdona. Follow this road for about 0.5 miles. Aberdona Wood can then be found on the left. Proceed for a further 0.5 miles and Meeks Park Wood can be found on the right.
ACCESS
Both areas of woodland can be accessed directly from the public road. Meeks Park Wood has a large bellmouth with gated access leading to an internal forest track.
It should be noted that Meeks Park Wood does not benefit from any access via Meeks Park farm road. There are, however, rights within the Title to cross the farm road between Meeks Park and Cairnmuir.
